Every Organization Has a Dragon, Every Organization Can Use Lean Thinking to Harness It

Every continent of the world has stories of dragons, wherever these mythical beasts lived, these ancient legends endowed dragons with great power- life changing power. In some cultures they are creative and protective and in others all consuming and destructive. They reflected the fears and aspirations of the storytellers and the times they lived in. The dragon I speak about is a metaphor that represents the joint response of the people doing the work, to the leadership’s influence on their behavior. Every organization has a dragon, every organization can use lean thinking to harness it. Like dragons, the people doing the work have the power to create or destroy. They too reflect the fears and aspirations of their storytellers. The storytellers are you the leadership. You guide the power of the dragon and what it can accomplish.

Using Hoshin Kanri to Align the Company’s Strategic Direction and Improve the Tactical Planning to Achieve Sustainable Success

There are various ways for setting company goals for the year. Managers sit together for many hours discussing where to focus. However, this process is often fragmented, unstructured, leads to silo approach, and above all - never reaches the lower layers in the company.

In this keynote you will learn the step-by-step approach that leads to clear short- and long-term goals, the related targets and the execution plan on tactical level which involves all company employees. Broadly used to visualize the outcomes is the so called X-matrix and you will be able to see all benefits of this simple, yet powerful tool.

On the Different Ways to Do Pull

Kanban is the best known approach to pull production. However, there are many other ways to do pull. This presentation will give you an overview of the different ways to pull from the different types of Kanban to CONWIP to POLCA to Reorder Point and more. It will guide you on when to use which approach. One key difference is make-to-stock vs. make-to order, which also heavily influences how to calculate the pull inventory limit. The presentation is a short tour through the extensive book “All About Pull Production”.

Redefining Tomorrow with Lean Thinking

Lean thinking is informed by underlying values and assumptions. Key among those are the principles of Continuous Improvement and Respect for Humanity. To apply those, we begin by identifying problems or dreams and countermeasures or target conditions. How can CI and Respect embodied in lean problem solving be applied to the great problems of the world of today and tomorrow? How can we define our futures? What can we do practically to begin PDCA-ing our way toward better futures? This session will explore those questions.
